Feeling a bit beat up by life?

I feel really blessed to be able speak with SO MANY people and hear what’s going on in their lives and businesses. And honestly, one of the more common feelings I hear expressed by folks these days is that they feel like they’ve taken a beating the past few years.

Certainly life has its ups and downsthat’s normal.

beat-upHowever – I believe the key to an awesome life is:

  1. to recognize and ACCEPT that ebbs and flows do occur AND
  2. do our best to structure our lives so that we have the most control over what we can have control of.

So what do I mean by that? Well simply this. When you put your life and welfare into the hands of others it’s easy to feel victimized and down when things don’t go your way.

Creating your own business that you’re in charge of is one of the best ways to take control of your work situation. And learning to take healthy action in the face of adversity is one of the best ways to make that happen in your personal and business life (along with not taking people and situations personally).

So then, what if you do have a business and it’s been “less than voraciously successful?”

What that tells me is that you don’t have a solid business plan to take you from point A to point B OR that you have a plan but have been self-sabotaging your way out of it.

successI have three friends that built businesses from point zero to a million dollars right through this recession. Yes, seriously. They all had a plan and kept taking action until they made it happen. Sure they took actions that crashed and burned from time to time – same in my business – but they kept redirecting until they obtained the results they were looking for.

My theory is if I don’t get the outcome I want in life I can fix it. But if I’m in a situation where I’m not in control it’s much more difficult and often more frustrating. So if I’m going to be in a really painful situation I’d much rather it be of my making!

That attitude keeps me excited about my unpleasant outcomes rather than upset about them. Notice I did not use the word failure because I don’t believe failure exists – only outcomes I didn’t want or didn’t expect.

Since I never fail I never have to beat myself up, I just redirect, learn and move on. Life can present us with plenty of situations that slap us upside the head – but without all the judgment about what I did, what I didn’t do, what I should have done, what I could have done, what I did compared to what someone else did, blah, blah, blah – I can remain on task, happy, and in control.

After all, the way I choose to see anything in my life is the ultimate expression of my control right?

We’ve all had a year – or years – where one difficult situation after another occurred. But I promise you that if you take control of what you can in your life (your attitude especially), you’ll be able to keep your head totally above water no matter what life sends your way.

And if you do that I guarantee you’ll no longer feel beat up by life either.

I’d love to hear if you’ve been feeling beat up by life and what you’ve been doing to get yourself on track again. And if you don’t have a plan for getting control of your life – now that you’ve read this are you inspired to get control and take action again? Let me know below!

To the end of mediocrity!
