Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask how a toltec warrior can be in an occupation and be aware that it's not really important, but being passionate about it. I understand a means of income is neccissary in this society.

Personally though, I have no idea what kind of occupation I would have a passion for. A passion I do have is to be free from my own self judgement, and to embrace self-love. All my life people have told me I need to have some kind of degree, have a certian paying job, and be in a certian field of expertise in order to make it in the world.

I feel that these things really don't define who I really am. I feel that these occupations are part of the " dream of the planet" . Is it about picking a dream/story or job that goes along with what I want to create in life? If this is true, I don't know what that story or dream could possibly be for myself. I honestly don't know anything about the world or my place in it. I feel some fear in investing my time and finances into something that would later be unfufilling or boring.

Perhaps someone can show me a different point of view on this. Any kind of feedback is welcome. Thanks.

-Luke

P.S. - Do toltec masters have everyday 9-5 jobs in occupations besides their teachings?

Dear Friend,

Hi. I often feel that degrees and one's occupation are not important in defining who you are. Although it is a task not to be pulled into those points of views from time to time.
It realy doesn't matter what you do to make a living. Just enjoy and be present in what ever it is that you do with your time.

with great love and joy-

Dear Luke,

I was contemplating your post today, and my reply. What I failed to express is that each minute of the day can be filled with the passion for life. Does it really make a difference wether those moments are considered "work" or leisure? Can one find satisfaction in doing dishes as well as walking along the seashore? Are some occupations "better" than others? And what of those who do not have to "work" to get money? Can there be satisfacton and passion in a life without a career?

Your post is interesting. It reminds me to enjoy every activity that I choose to perform. It also reminds me to pay more attention to what ever I do.

thanks for the food for thought today-

Dear Luke,

I agree 100% with what Laura said. You can find joy, happiness and peace in any job/task/career you choose. When people have said to me, "But I don't know what it is I want to do," my suggestion is to look and ask yourself: If there were no limitations set as far as how to get there, what would I really enjoy doing? What do I have fun with? Again, what is my passion? Then do it. That simple. You can create anything. You can achieve anything. If you truly set your intent to achieve something--you will. And having done that, it is almost impossible not to create abundance with it.

Have you watched The Secret yet? That might be a useful tool. You can find it at

Best,
Maggie

PS My observation is that many Toltec teachers have transitioned into doing their teachings and writing full time.

"I dreamed last night that I was spiritual and I could fly." "That's fine, my dear, but are you also 'so spiritual' that you can pay the rent?"

That is from the forward on the book, Dare to Prosper, written by Catherine Ponder.

One of the interesting things that sometimes occurs with people embarking on a spiritual path is the erroneous agreement that money is evil. Or that the acquisition of money is somehow not a spiritual undertaking. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Your question was regarding whether most Toltec Masters work. I guess to answer that you need to define what you mean by Toltec Master. I can say that I study Toltec philosophies, I apply that which makes sense to me to my daily living. I also realize that with any spiritual pursuit one has to eat to survive and pay rent, or mortgage to have shelter.

Someone has to do it...

if every person who embarked on the study of Toltec were to be unemployed or deriving their income from the donations of others, there would be no money for spiritual journeys, no money to attend spiritual weekends, and not even enough money to buy the books written by Toltec Masters.

Money is a wonderful commodity. Money can do great things in the right hands. A person in a position of great wealth can effect enormous change in the world. Look at what Bill and Melinda Gates are proposing to do with their charitable foundation. Warren Buffet has decided to donate his vast wealth to charity. That potential good is all created by money.

In Toltec one of the first things a person will strive to become is a Warrior. A Warrior is a person who takes action. Actions of life include meeting one's responsibilities; paying ones bills, meeting one's obligations.

So Luke, go out and find that thing that gets inside of you, that thing that you just love to do. The thing that excites you and makes you want to get up every morning to pursue.

A book that you might find interesting was written by Marilyn Tunneshand. I don't remember the title, but she describes her apprenticeship with a sorceress who insisted that those in her care learn a skill of some sort. Ms. Tunneshand was a professor of some sort and educated enough to write an intelligible book.

All the best in finding what it is that you want to do in this life. That truly is one of the greatest joys we face, to find what it is we want to do and to do the best we can while pursuing it.

All the best to you Luke!

Be abundant!
Scott

Thank you everyone for your replies. Maybe I can find happiness in every moment, thanks Laura. I want to take that chance to change my life, to wake up every day exited to be alive, whatever it is I am doing. Even though I still don't know what I would like to do (according to my point of view), I don't want to stay in the same old job for the rest of my life pretending to be happy.

Reading your posts, I was able to see that I'm also a little afraid to do something different because I fear making less money than I do now. I feel might not make it because of lack of experience/school. But I see that I am trapping myself by what I believe. Even if I end up making minimum wage, I want to be at peace with myself.

Thanks Maggie for your suggestion in what I could ask myself, but I still feel blank.
I'm still young though. Maybe by taking certian actions, opportunities will present themselves to me. I was also able to see that I'm not taking responsibility to myself for what I have chosen to do. My time on this planet is my time right? So why not do something I would love to do, rather than what I believe I should or have to do?

I appreciate everyone's input, especialy Scott. Your encourgement has helped me greatly. I may go get that movie "The Secret". This world seems so strange to me sometimes, it's like I'm a world within a world.

Dear Luke,

You are simply dreaming all the time - and you can create and change your life to reflect any thing you want. You may find that you do not have passion for only one thing in life, or that you have passion for one thing and then 3 months later you have passion for something else. I am constantly shifting my passions and sometimes the dream is still trying to keep up with me!

But I have fun and I do my best to enjoy everything, no matter what it is. I had so much fun writing WITH Forgiveness - Are You Ready? with my friend Susyn Reeve and now I am having fun learning a totally new skill and field. Who knows what will unfold tomorrow.

The key is to take action, talk to people and make your intent known. I would also suggest as Scott did, seeing the movie The Secret. Although I do not personally believe that we "attract" anything to us - as for me there is nothing out there - the universe lives in my mind - I do believe that you create everything you think in your mind! The bottom line is that the outcome is the same - different point of view thats all.

In the end you are always in service in this lifetime. You make think a useless job is worthless, however every job must be done whether it is picking up the garbage or being a brain surgeon. Believe me - one week of not picking up the garbage in NYC and you would see how important and service oriented that "seeming" useless job is.

Blessings, Sheri

Thanks Sheri for your words. I can see there is tremendous freedom in awareness. I really want to try new things, and that is what I'm going to do.

I also recogonized a belief that having a passion has to be one thing to do. Maybe that's also another reason why It's so diffucult for me to decide what I want to do. The truth speaks in your words - I see having more than one passion and changing it if I want to is ok.

Im not going to make a definite decision to setup my life, but I am going to see what I like. An experiment with life, to see what happens being in service to myself and others.

Regards,
-Luke
