Toltec Teachings & Wisdom of don Miguel Ruiz & The Four Agreements®

Toltec Wisdom Podcast

Pod-casting is a fantastic new technology that allows us to record a lecture as an mp3 file (an mp3 is a compressed audio file) and then broadcast it through the virtual reality (internet) and have it end up on your computer. Once it’s there, you can listen to it on your computer, transfer it to a CD that can be played on most CD players, or transfer it to an mp3 player (for example an iPod). As a result, you can listen to the lecture at your leisure and take your Toltec Wisdom no matter where you go whether it is to the gym, on a walk or at the beach.

I will walk you step by step through the process of setting up my Toltec Wisdom podcast on your computer. Believe me, if I can figure this out, so can you. Rather than getting frustrated because you believe you are not capable of doing this, break that belief right now and follow along with me! This is putting the Toltec teachings into practice, right?

STEP 1

You need to install the latest version of iTunes. iTunes is the program that will “catch” the podcast and allow you to listen to it at your leisure on your computer or transfer it to a CD or an iPod. If you already have iTunes 5.0 you can skip this step! If you don't have it then do the following:

  1. Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
  2. Select your computers Operating System at the top (Windows or Mac/Apple).
  3. I'd uncheck the two checkboxes that are used to send you emails.
  4. Click the Download button to download the iTunes install file (take note on where this iTunes install file is saved on your computer).
  5. After the file is downloaded, locate the file, run it, and follow all the instructions on the screen to install iTunes.

STEP 2

To add my podcast feed to iTunes do the following, to tell iTunes where to get the content:

  1. Open iTunes
  2. Click the menu option Advanced >> Subscribe to Podcast at the top of the window.
  3. Enter the following in the window and hit OK
  4. My address is: http://www.freeconferencecall.com/itunes/itunes.xml?id=7125800600:1030655

STEP 3

Set your scheduler options to specify how often you want the Podcast to be automatically updated on your computer. A bit of magic happens as each time the Podcast is updated fresh content is already there waiting for you (provided there is updated content to retrieve):

  1. Open iTunes
  2. Click Edit >> Preferences at the top of the window.
  3. Select the Podcasts tab.
  4. Under the "Check for new episodes" option, select how often you want Podcasts to be updated on your computer.
  5. If you want, you can change the other two options below, which specify what to do "When new episodes are available" and what episodes to "keep".
  6. If you have an iPod then you can click the "iPod Preferences" button to specify if you want some or all Podcasts to automatically be copied to your iPod (ensure your iPod is connected to your computer before clicking the button).

STEP 4

You can now listen to the Podcast(s) on your computer by doing the following:

  1. Open iTunes
  2. Click the Podcasts option in the left window pane.
  3. Locate my Podcast in the right window pane and click the right triangle to the left of the name, which will display all my available Podcasts.
  4. Click on a Podcast and hit the Play button at the top of the window.

You can listen to the Podcast(s) on your iPod by doing the following:

  1. Open iTunes
  2. Connect your iPod to the computer.
  3. After the iPod is updated you can disconnect the iPod and play the Podcast anywhere! Just simply browse the music by Genre and select Podcasts to see all Podcasts.

You can transfer one or more Podcasts to a CD (aka burning a cd) by doing the following:

  1. Open iTunes
  2. Create a playlist by clicking File >> New Playlist at the top of the window (iTunes only burns playlists to CD).
  3. Enter a description of the new Playlist (i.e. Podcasts for CD) and hit enter.
  4. Click the Podcasts option in the left window pane.
  5. Locate my Podcast in the right window pane and click the right triangle to the left of the name, which will display all my available Podcasts.
  6. Click on a Podcast(s) and Drag it to the Playlist you created.
  7. Click the Playlist in the left window pane (you will now see the Podcasts you moved to this Playlist).
  8. Place a blank CD in your computer.
  9. Click the "Burn Disk" icon at the top right of the window.
  10. After the CD is done burning you can listen to it in practically any CD player!

STEP 5

Other Options...
If you don't have an iPod but do have another type of MP3 player you can still copy the Podcast(s) to your MP3 player (provided there is enough available space on it). Simply import the Podcast(s) into your MP3 software from the \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Podcasts folder (this is where iTunes places the audio files).

If you don't want to use iTunes there are other Podcasting programs available that can "catch" the Podcasts to your computer. One good alternative is a program called iPodder, which can be found in this site. If you use one of these RSS programs then use this feed address:http://www.freeconferencecall.com/itunes/podcast.asp?id=7125800600:1030655
