Millie Munoz - Toltec Mentor
After many years of self-rejection and shame, Millie reached what she believed was the end with no other option other than to end her life. Little did she know that this would be the beginning of her journey in discovering a life of love, peace and joy. She was introduced to The Four Agreements® by don Miguel Ruiz and began mentoring with Dr. Sheri Rosenthal, author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Toltec Wisdom and WITH Forgiveness: Are You Ready?.
She has spent over 5 years breaking the beliefs that were holding her prisoner to pain and began experiencing acceptance and unconditional love. Growing up with physical challenges herself, Millie loves the opportunity to share with others in looking beyond any perceived limitations to see their true beauty and ultimate expression. She also enjoys sharing in Spanish and looking at all the beliefs that might have be holding you back from experiencing your personal freedom.
For those of you who do not know - Millie has a genetic condition called Dystonia - two years ago it became generalized in her body causing severe pain and multiple disabilities. Yet using the tools she's gained from her Toltec path she's confronted her fear in the face of adversity. Millie is scheduled for brain surgery in September and we are also taking donations for the cost of the surgery. This deep brain stimulation surgery has been a God-send for people with Dystonia and Millie is looking forward to being able to function again. Read about Millie's experience with Dystonia in the article below. To donate funds for Millie's surgery:

Overcoming Fear: Taking Action in the Face of Adversity by Millie Munoz
“Sweetheart, why do you write that way? Honey, why are walking funny?” said Ms. Johnson. That is where it all began. As a child, I had difficulty walking, writing, and with my speech. I went to speech therapy, got special orthopedic equipment and that was that, or so we thought. In high school, my foot started to invert, and after many doctor visits, at the age of 16, I was finally diagnosed with Focal Dystonia, affecting the right side of my body. Dystonia is “a neurological movement disorder in which sustained muscle contractions cause twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dystonia
In those days, Dystonia was still pretty new and unknown, and experimenting with medicines was the best course of action. I was on a combination of meds for a few years, but became tired of all of the side effects (including severe depression leading to several suicide attempts) and decided to go off the medicines. I made do for a couple of years. Then all of a sudden other parts of my body started to hurt. After two years of doctor visits and a wide array of incorrect diagnoses one doctor finally told me that my Dystonia had generalized throughout my whole body. Now I get muscle spasms, which my friends and I jokingly call “chicken eggs,” in my arms, trunk, abs and legs making it difficult to stand up straight or walk normally. Along with the spasms, is enormous pain and fatigue.
In the past six months things have progressed rapidly and aggressively. At this time, I depend on my loved ones for almost everything. I have a hard time doing just the very basics, like brushing my teeth or pouring a glass of water. I am very blessed to have such amazing friends that love me and help me each step of the way. Life, in its perfection, prepared me for this through years of working with Sheri and walking the Toltec path. This work has given me the wisdom, the love and the faith, to take this on as a “Warrior’s Challenge” and walk through my fear.
In the mist of life’s perfection exists a promising procedure called Deep Brain Stimulation. “It is a surgical treatment involving the implantation of a medical device called a brain pacemaker, which sends electrical impulses to specific parts of the brain” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_brain_stimulation.
So after the surgery, when all the equipment will be installed, I will be going for programming to adjust the frequencies so my muscles can function normally again. I will be traveling to NYC this September for surgery. Being that I am traveling out of state, my medical insurance will help some, but the burden of the financial responsibly rests upon me. At the moment, I still work full-time, but that is becoming more and more challenging each day. So I turn to Life and to You and ask for help in assisting me in paying for this expensive surgery. Thank you and blessings.
